Kayak Halong Bay

Tourists uncover Ha Long Bay by Kayak

The best way to feel all the imposingness of Ha Long nature and to uncover every extremely beautiful cliff and fall is rowing a kayak.
In fact, traveling by kayak appeared in Ha Long in the early years of 90s, 20th century. At first, Journeying by kayak was just for venturesome foreign tourists.

Up till now, there have been many domestic tourists taking part in this activity in Ha Long Bay. By being on a kayak, tourists will find out a very beautiful Ha Long completely different from what they can see on a cruiser.

The wonderful Ha Long’s nature through the special and quaint images of thousands of limestone islands and caves with many stalactites…has enchanted so many tourists. However, it’s best for you traveling by kayak in order to enjoy all the magnificence of Ha Long’s nature affected by the waves, the winds and the sea in thousands of years or contemplate the flock of seabirds perching on the cliffs and touch the age-old stalactites.

Being alone on a boat or with a partner, tourists will experience many special feelings that they have never had before and enjoy the complete quietness of many deserted areas on arriving at the foot of Limestone Mountains.

When the kayak goes through unnamed islands, you will have the chance to look at beautiful coral forests, schools of tiny fish and lots of many other types of scenery which have never been in any touring book. Every time the oars go down into the sea, hundreds of sea water drops splash to the air showing sparkling beauty in the sunshine.

At the moment, most of the big touring boats in Ha Long Bay such as Huong Hai, Ginger have got kayaks. There are many types of kayaks: ones made from founded rubber, ones made from plastic or air-pumped boats with oars. The islands such as Luon cave, Ba Trai Dao, Ba Ham, Dau Be…are suitable sites for kayak rowing.

Rowing the kayak closely to the foot of the mountain in order to discover new feelings is one of tourists’ pleasures in Ha Long

The tourists need to push on the ceilings of short caves to get into those caves or move the boats by hand in some dry areas. Especially, if you join in an overnight tour on boat, you will have chance to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere in the middle of the sea.

On the way back from Ha Long Bay, Brian James - an Australian tourist enthusiastically told us about his experiences there, especially the time when he traveled alone on a kayak to Luon cave:

“Moving the boat into the cave is the most impressive experience for me. The futher, I got into the cave, the darker it was, hundreds of stalactites were just in front of my face and sometimes I need to lie down so as to go through them. My arms was dead tired after finishing the trip discovering Ha Long Bay by kayak but it gave me a lot of exciting things".

In 2000, The National Geographic Adventure Journal nominated Ha Long Bay as one the 25 first-class kayak traveling tourism destinations in the world.
